The organizers of the 2026 World All-Around Chess Championship have just announced the final six players confirmed to participate: Le Quang Liem, Levon Aronian, Jorden van Foreest, Abhimanyu Mishra, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, and Andrew Hong. This completes the list of 24 players for the tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to take place at the Anantara New York Palace Hotel in Budapest. Developed and operated by Norway Chess, the tournament is recognized by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
Unlike tournaments that only feature one type of chess, the 24 players in this competition will compete in three formats: semi-standard chess, rapid chess, and blitz chess. In the semi-standard format, each player has 45 minutes plus 30 seconds added after each move, instead of the usual 90 minutes plus 30 seconds in standard chess.
The players are divided into four groups of six, competing to determine the overall champion. This year's event also serves as preparation for the Total Chess World Championship Tour, which is expected to begin its first season in 2027.
The list of participants includes 18 out of the 24 players with an Elo rating above 2,700. Magnus Carlsen, the world number one, is the most prominent figure. Other notable players include Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Vincent Keymer, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Anish Giri, and Alireza Firouzja.
Le Quang Liem is ranked 18th in the world in the published list. The Vietnamese Grandmaster will have the opportunity to face many top players in a tournament that demands adaptability to different formats and time constraints.
The two female players participating are Bibisara Assaubayeva of Kazakhstan and Vaishali Rameshbabu of India .
In addition to the names mentioned above, the prize also includes Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richard Rapport, Levon Aronian, Hans Moke Niemann, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Jorden van Foreest, Haik M. Martirosyan, Vladislav Artemiev, Abhimanyu Mishra and Andrew Hong.
Le Quang Liem's presence in Budapest provides another opportunity for Vietnam's number one chess player to compete against a group of high-ranked opponents in semi-standard, rapid, and blitz chess.
