On August 7, 2026, the Vietnamese Government issued Resolution No. 219/NQ-CP approving the upgrading of Khanh Binh main border gate (An Giang province) to Khanh Binh international road border gate.

Following the upgrade of the Khanh Binh border gate, An Giang province now has four international border gates bordering Kandal, Takeo, and Kampot provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia, including the Tinh Bien, Ha Tien, Vinh Xuong, and Khanh Binh border gates.

Khanh Binh - Chrey Thom is the second international border gate connecting An Giang province with Kandal province, after the Vinh Xuong - Kaam Samnor border gate. Located approximately 75km from Phnom Penh, Khanh Binh border gate has convenient road and waterway connections.

Bringing the two border gates into operation will create further impetus for the development of the border economy. An Giang province aims to achieve a total import and export value of approximately 1.2 billion USD by 2030, gradually strengthening the connection of goods from the Mekong Delta with Cambodia and other markets in the region.

The movement of citizens and vehicles from third countries is also expected to facilitate the development of international tourism tours and routes connecting An Giang and other provinces in the Mekong Delta with Phnom Penh and other localities in the region.

Cargo vehicles are seen passing through the Khánh Bình - Chrey Thom international road border crossing.

Along with promoting trade, services, logistics, and tourism, the operation of the two border gates facilitates coordination between the authorities of the two countries in border management, immigration control, import and export control, and the prevention and combating of transnational crime, human trafficking, illegal immigration, and trade fraud.
