The athletes take turns jumping from hot air balloon baskets at an altitude of hundreds of meters, performing freefalls against a backdrop of red desert landscapes and characteristic sandstone cliffs.
Thabit Hassan Al-Nabulsi, Commissioner for Tourism and Youth, shared: “This is the first time Jordan has hosted a hot air balloon parachute jump event. Wadi Rum is special because it is both a nature reserve and possesses unique natural landscapes.”

Hot air balloons are being inflated with hot air in preparation for taking athletes hundreds of meters into a daring parachute jump in the Wadi Rum desert, Jordan.
"I've parachuted in the desert before, but I've never experienced parachuting in a setting like this," said Christia Marce, a Romanian skydiver. "The scenery here is beautiful; I'm very impressed."

The Wadi Rum Desert is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its vast valleys, red sand dunes, and sandstone formations.
The organizers hope that bringing international extreme sports activities here will help Jordan's tourism industry recover from the impact of instability in the Middle East.
