On the evening of October 1st, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel ( Hanoi ), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the People's Committee of Hanoi, held the opening ceremony of the second World Culture Festival in Hanoi - 2026 with the theme "Gathering Heritage - Shaping the Future."

Prior to the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra ; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Lam Thi Phuong Thanh; Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang; and Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre Lazare Eloundou Assomo visited the cultural spaces of nearly 50 countries and international organizations. Here, distinctive features of art, costumes, heritage, and cuisine were showcased, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the cultures of many regions right in the heart of Hanoi.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra emphasized the role of heritage in connecting cultures and shaping the future. “Heritage does not belong only to the past. Heritage values ​​are present in the present and are an important resource for building the future. Each nation and each people has its own heritage; but when they come together, they blend, creating diversity in cultural expressions and enriching the treasury of human civilization,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, stated that the gathering of nearly 50 countries in Hanoi, sharing unique cultural values ​​in a peaceful setting, is a meaningful act for UNESCO's peace-building mission. He also emphasized that Thang Long Imperial Citadel is a suitable space for organizing the festival, as its layers of heritage spanning over a millennium reflect the continuous progress of political and cultural life. “Culture doesn’t just live in archives. Culture lives when people interact, share, and open their hearts to allow culture to touch their souls,” Mr. Lazare said at the opening ceremony.

The event is even more significant as it is held in the year commemorating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's membership in UNESCO and right at Thang Long Imperial Citadel – a World Heritage site, one of the typical symbols of the historical depth, cultural vitality, and aspirations for peace and prosperity of the Vietnamese people; a space rich in meaning for cultures to meet, interact, and together preserve, transmit, create, and spread the profound and meaningful message of "Converging Heritage – Shaping the Future."

The opening ceremony's artistic program, directed and overseen by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, featured 39 performances with the participation of Vietnamese and international artists and art troupes.

Songs expressing pride in Vietnam and its people, such as "Welcome to Vietnam," "Bac Bling," "Made in Vietnam," and "My Dear, Don't Leave ," resonated on stage through performances by Xuan Hinh, Hoang Bach, Chu Bao Que, Hoa Minzy, Tuan Cry, Truc Nhan, Duc Phuc, along with dance troupes and theater groups.

Interspersed throughout the event were performances showcasing the unique cultural identities of art troupes from China, Laos, Pakistan, Peru, Cambodia, Israel, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, and other countries.

The second World Culture Festival in Hanoi took place from October 1-4 at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel historical site, with the participation of 50 countries and international organizations, offering a rich variety of experiences on a large scale (45 cultural spaces, 35 food stalls, 18 countries registering to screen films, 19 international art troupes with 220 artists from 5 continents).
