In the context of a volatile international economy , strengthening Vietnam-Panama relations is not only of bilateral significance but also opens up opportunities for connecting Vietnam with Central America and Latin America, and makes Panama a more favorable destination for Vietnamese businesses in their market expansion.

Despite their geographical distance, Vietnam and Panama share a common aspiration for peace, independence, and development. They established diplomatic relations on August 28, 1975, opening a path of meaningful cooperation. Possessing a strategic location in Central America and controlling the Panama Canal, a vital global shipping route, Panama is a leading trade gateway and logistics hub in the region, playing a key role in the supply chain.

Panama has a thriving service-based economy built on a modern ecosystem of logistics, finance and banking, international trade, and maritime transport management. Meanwhile, Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic economies, with a wide network of economic relations and increasing integration into regional and global supply chains. This presents an advantage for the two countries to strengthen cooperation in logistics, maritime transport, and supply chains, facilitating Vietnamese businesses in expanding investment and exporting goods to the Americas and vice versa.

The significant complementarity between the two economies forms the basis for Vietnam and Panama to continue seeking new impetus for cooperation. The two countries serve as gateways connecting Asia with Latin America, jointly promoting trade, maritime transport, logistics, and sustainable development. Economic, trade, and investment cooperation is considered one of the pillars with significant potential in Vietnam-Panama relations.

With its manufacturing and export advantages, Vietnam has strengths in product groups such as agricultural products, seafood, textiles, footwear, electronics, machinery, equipment, and consumer goods. Meanwhile, Panama has advantages in logistics, port services, international trade, and a particularly favorable geographical location for connecting with markets in the Americas. Situated at the crossroads of North and South America, Panama can serve as a connecting point for Vietnamese businesses to explore expanding their operations into Central America, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Conversely, Panamanian businesses can leverage Vietnam's position within ASEAN to access the Southeast Asian market, as well as opportunities arising from the network of trade agreements that Vietnam participates in. In terms of trade and investment cooperation, Panama could become a transit hub for Vietnamese goods in Latin America, while Vietnam could serve as a stepping stone for Panama to access the ASEAN market.

One of the striking similarities between Vietnam and Panama is that both countries hold important positions in the international maritime network. Panama is known for the Panama Canal, a vital shipping route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Vietnam, with its long coastline and increasingly invested port system, is gradually enhancing its role in the regional logistics network and supply chain. This provides a basis for the two countries to strengthen the exchange of experiences in port development, logistics services, supply chain management, maritime transport, maritime human resource training, and digital transformation in logistics.

Vietnam and Panama also have great potential to expand comprehensive cooperation in fields such as agriculture , telecommunications, infrastructure, maritime transport, aviation, banking, education and training, and green energy. Both sides can maximize the advantages of the Panama Canal to act as a bridge, enabling goods from both countries to penetrate deeper into the Latin American and Asia-Pacific markets, ensuring the security of international supply chains.

From trade, investment, logistics, and maritime affairs to agriculture, technology, green energy, tourism , and people-to-people exchanges, the scope of cooperation between Vietnam and Panama still has much room for exploration. In the context of increasingly interconnected Asia-Pacific and Latin America in terms of economics, trade, and supply chains, Vietnam-Panama relations are facing new opportunities. The foundation of friendship cultivated over many years, along with complementary geoeconomic advantages, creates favorable conditions for the two countries to expand cooperation in a substantive, effective, and mutually beneficial manner.
